Herman "Gene" Eugene Dumke Jr., 67, of Vermilion, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
Gene was born September 20, 1950 in Elyria, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 41 years moving from Kansas.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving with the 533rd Strategic Missile Squadron from 1969-1976.
Gene worked for IBM in customer service and point of sale repairs for 37 years, retiring in 2014.
He had attended The Chapel, Sandusky and was a member of the American Legion Post #397, Vermilion. Gene enjoyed golfing on the Vermilion Country Club leagues and bowling with the Lake Erie Lanes leagues. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kimberly Dawn Dumke of Vermilion; sons, Daniel (Yuuki) Dumke of LasVegas, NV and R. Nicholas (Jessica) Forrider of Vermilion; daughter, Melanie Phillips of Bellevue and Kara Harned of Vermilion; grandchildren, Devin Dumke, Eric Phillips, Jr., Kayla Phillips, Hadley Harned, and Delilah Forrider; brother, Ken (Debbie) Dumke of Wellington; his sisters, Theresa (Larry) Kopa of Dayton and Carol (Jim) Shuster of Lorain and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Eugene and Josephine Therese (nee Kristosik) Dumke.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12 Noon at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion, Ohio. Pastor Jim Cooper will officiate. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors just prior to the funeral service. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion at a later date.
