Obituary of Russell Demaline

Russell L. Demaline, 95, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, less than two months of his 96th birthday.

Russell was born April 8, 1918 in Cleveland and had been a Vermilion resident since 1969.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II.

Russell worked as a security specialist for NASA for 31 years retiring in 1974.

He was a member of the Vermilion Grace United Methodist Church. He was always present with a ready hand, he valued service to family and community. He was a joyful worker at Vermilion's Fish Festival, Wollybear Festival, and Lions Pig Roasts. Russell was an active member of the Lions Club, Ely Masonic Lodge #424, Lorain County Scottish Rite and Shrine where he was president in 1990, AMVETS Post #22, and he was the head of the Salvation Army from 1975-1985. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his friend and son-in-law, Joseph Richvalsky of Avon; daughters, Eileen Richvalsky of Vermilion; and Joan (Jesus) Lee of Littleton, CO; niece, Denise Delany of Edwards, CO 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine C. Demaline in 1998; parents, Saul and Kate (nee Davis) Demaline; and brothers, Robert Demaline and Thomas Wood.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 from 3-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH where the Ely Lodge #424 will conduct a Masonic service at 6:30 followed by the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. A memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church, Coen and West Lake Roads, Vermilion, OH 44089. The Reverend David Hull-Frye will officiate. Interment will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron at a later date.
