Joseph D. Lane

Joe D. Lane, 91, of Sandusky, died Friday, January 4, 2019 at Ohio Veterans Home after a short illness.

Joe was born September 2, 1927 in Warren, Ohio, to Walter and Edith (nee Landis) Lane. A resident of Sandusky, and former longtime resident of Vermilion, Ohio and Mulberry, Florida, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 15 years, retiring in 1973. He also worked for the Lake Terminal Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a US Navy Veteran.

He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Mulberry, Florida where he sang in the choir. He was formerly a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Vermilion, and also was a member of the choir there. Joe was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Ely Lodge #424. He enjoyed painting, bowling, and golfing.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandy (Bob) Brummer and Connie (Jim) Hormell; sons, Joe C. Lane, Robert (Christine) Lane, and Thomas (Donna) Lane; his wife Eleanor Lane; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and his sister, Ruth Dodd.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy (nee Pena) Lane; daughter, Nancy Lee Gorbach; brother, Earl Lane, and his sister Marion Ebert.

Friends may call on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 11 am until the time of the memorial service at 1 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. The Vermilion Veterans Council will present Military Honors prior to the memorial service. Pastor Nick Cacciatore will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion.
