Arlys Jean Schwensen (nee Prange), 93, of Vermilion, died Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Elmcroft of Lorain after a lengthy illness.
She was born October 31, 1926 in Detroit, MI and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 70 years.
Arlys co-owner Schwensen Bakery with her husband Edward where she worked as the master cake decorator for 40 years.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational Vermilion, the Junior League, and started the original downtown Vermilion Merchants Association where she served as President. She had also been a volunteer with New Life Hospice and enjoyed baking and was a trained cake decorator. Arlys will be remembered for her love of music and her ability to make people smile.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Eckley of Vermilion; son, David (Deborah) Schwensen of Vermilion; grandchildren, Blake, and Brooke Eckley, Kevin Hanley, and Paul Schwensen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Schwensen in 1993; parents, Frank and Ella (nee Wavrick) Prange and her brother, Don Prange.
Graveside services will be held Monday, October 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Reverend Melinda Quellhorst will officiate.
