Ruth C. Harris (nee Currier), 98, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a short illness.
She was born March 22, 1923 in Henrietta Twp., and had been a lifelong Vermilion area resident. Ruth and her husband, Clyde enjoyed spending winters in Leesburg, FL for the last 38 years.
Ruth graduated from Ashland College with a Master's in Education. She worked for Firelands and Amherst Schools as a second and fourth grade teacher for 30 years retiring in 1983.
She was a member of South Amherst United Methodist Church, Amherst Teachers Association; OEA, NEA, and a longtime member of the Vermilion Boat Club. She enjoyed square dancing, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing. She was well traveled and especially enjoyed cruises.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (Barbara) Harris of Amherst and Gary (Nikki) Harris of Vermilion; daughter, Mary Jo Harris of Florence; her sidekick, Patricia Bates of Florence; grandchildren, Jonathon, Matthew and Ryan Harris and Erica Kennett; great-grandchildren, Ian, Nikolas, Piper, and Oliver; and her brothers, Richard (Rose) Currier of Amherst and Thomas (Fran) Currier of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E Harris on March 16, 2021; parents, Chauncey and Helen (nee Fairchild) Currier; sister, Madge Brandau; and brother, Jim Currier.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
