Obituary of William Phillips
William "Bill" L. Phillips, 88, of Vermilion, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at his daughter's home in New London.
He was born May 1, 1929 in Elyria and had been a New London resident for the past 6 years moving from Vermilion where he had resided for over 43 years.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War.
Bill worked as a truck driver and carpenter for Shore Lumber retiring in 1997 after 29 years.
He was a life member of AMVETS Post #22 where he had served as the post commander, American Legions Post #397, and the VFW Post #7576. He enjoyed woodworking, watching the Cleveland Indians and golf, spending time outdoors, spending time with his great grandchildren, and his buddy Daisy.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Phillips of Ashland and Terry Phillips of Cincinnati; daughters, Nancy Phillips of Kipton, Wendy (Jeff) Henderson of Perrysville, and Lori (David "Rudy") Graham of New London; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Phillips of South Amherst, Daniel Phillips of South Amherst, and David Phillips of Oberlin; and his sister, Helen L. Creammens of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Phillips in 2012; son, Randy Phillips; grandson, Timmy Phillips; parents, Raymond and Gertrude (nee Wissinger) Phillips; a sister, Dorothy West and his brothers, Robert, Raymond, Paul, Donald, James, and Richard Phillips.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Lee Stull, Pastor of Kipton Community Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Twp.
