Obituary of Donald Missig

Donald D. Missig, 80, of Vermilion, died Monday, October 29, 2018 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness.

 

He was born September 11, 1938 in Sandusky and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 59 years moving from Sandusky.

 

Donald was a veteran of the US Marines.

 

Donald worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain as a Production Manager for 32 years retiring in 1991.

 

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, AMVETS Post #22, American Legion Post #397, American Legion Post #83 where he was involved in the 40 and 8, and the Vermilion Fish and Game. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, camping, playing the guitar, playing cards, and going to car shows.

 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice M. Missig of Vermilion; sons, Donald (Susan) Missig II of Vermilion; David (Linda) Missig of Vermilion; and Rick (Rebecca) Missig of Vermilion; grandchildren, Donald Missig III, Christopher Missig of Vermilion, Travis Missig, Kaleb Missig, Cassandra Stanley, and Brittany Schreiner, 4 great grandchildren; and his half brother, Joseph Loris of Sandusky.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward John and Mildred (nee Link) Missig, sisters, Marian Linz, Corrine Niehm, and Janet Sidoti; and his brother, Edwin "Bud" Missig.

 

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. Father Ron Brickner will officiate. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors at St. Mary Catholic Church immediately following the mass. Private inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
