Obituary of Karen Reising
Karen Sue Reising (nee Edwards), 65, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Warren Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was born July 25, 1953 in Orrville, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 41 years.
Karen graduated from Orrville High School then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Akron. Her nursing career spanned from 1975 until her retirement in 2016. She was certified in oncology nursing, working for the Mull Cancer Center at Fairview Hospital for the past 20 years.
She was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational, founding member of the Vermilion Community Music Association, Oncology Nursing Association, and the Keel Haulers Club. She was active with delivering meals on wheels, cooking for Grace's Kitchen, playing in the UCCC hand bell choir, and also playing clarinet with the Vermilion Community Band. She loved traveling, canoeing, camping, walking in nature, and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jon Alan Reising; her children, Susan Michelle (Scott) Smith of Toledo and Katherine Ann "Katie" (Phil) Grimes of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Lily and Lucas Smith; brothers, Jeffery (Karen Millert) Edwards of Orrville and Jerry (Barb) Edwards of Tallahassee, FL; her sister, Kay Wade of Orrville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Maxine (nee Specht) Edwards and her loving infant son, Sean Alan Reising in 1978.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State St., Vermilion, OH 44089. Reverend Melinda Quellhorst will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery.
