Obituary of John S. Corogin
John S. Corogin passed away May 13, 2019.
Born March 12, 1925 to Solon “Sam” and Ann (Puskas) Corogin in Lorain. He was proud of his Greek and Czech background and being a first generation American.
After graduation from Clearview High School (1943), John joined the US Navy and served in the Philippines as an Ensign. John attended Ohio State University and later transferred to Baldwin Wallace where he earned his BA of Business. After his military service, he graduated from Miami University with an MBA. John believed that education was vital and supported several college scholarship funds throughout his life.
He married Clara Delis in 1949 in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and began his business career at Procter and Gamble in Baltimore, MD and later worked at headquarters in Cincinnati, OH. In 1953 he joined Lake Erie Electric as Partner and served as the Company Treasurer and Corporate Secretary, retiring in 1993 as Chairman of the Board.
A man of charm, dedication and character, John believed in service to his community and volunteered in leadership roles in the Salvation Army, Lorain Family YMCA, United Way of
Lorain County, City View Center, Boy Scouts of America and the Community Foundation of Lorain County.
In addition to his interests in golf and sailing, John and Clara traveled to 69 countries and visited most of our National Parks.
His wife of 64 years pre-deceased him (2013). He is survived by his children, Cynthia, Peter J. (wife Dana), Carolyn and grandchildren AnnaLisa (husband Sean), PJ and Weston (wife Angie).
John had one brother, Tom Corogin who preceded him in death.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held Monday, June 3, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Linwood Tabernacle, 4920 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, OH where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. John’s family will welcome guests at the Vermilion Boat Club, 5416 Liberty Ave. from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
