Obituary of Herbert Wayne Proctor

Herbert Wayne Proctor, 71, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

 

Wayne was born May 19, 1948 in Cedar Grove , WV and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 50 years moving from West Virginia.

 

Wayne graduated from East Bank High School in 1966 and proudly served his country in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.

 

Wayne worked for Ford Motor Co. in Lorain and Avon retiring in 2006 as a Supervisor after 36 years.

 

He was a member of the VFW Post #7576, American Legion Post #397, Marine Corps. League, Vietnam Veterans of America, Lorain County Coon Hunters Club, and a past member of the UAW Local #2000. Wayne enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, shooting matches, working in his garage, mowing the grass, and going on casino trips. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda (nee Randoph) Proctor of Vermilion; daughters, Melissa (Steven) Lee of Vermilion, Nyree (Ed) Skimin of Avon, and Lina (Jeremy) Leimbach of Vermilion; son, Harry Proctor of Vermilion; grandchildren: Ariona and Amanda Lee, Lia and Jilly Leimbach, and E.J. and Kyla Skimin; sisters, Brenda Payne of Belle, WV, Sheena Totten of Glasgow, WV, and Phyllis Thacker of Ypsilanti, MI.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene (nee Butterworth) Proctor; brothers, Grover, Flash, and Calvin Proctor; and his sisters, Norma Ash, Lilly Christie, and Ruth Ash.

 

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 7:45 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Jim Cooper will officiate. Interment will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
