Eileen Mae Ziemke, 95, from Vermilion,Ohio, ended a beautiful and graceful life on May 16, 2020, in her son’s home, Huron, OH. Born in Rocky River, OH her parents later moved to Milan, OH where she shared a happy childhood with her parents, brother and sister, and cherished life long friends and fellow cheerleaders. After graduating from Milan High School in 1942, she worked at New Departure during the WWII war effort. Her amazing love story of over 71 years began as a blind date after Edwin Ziemke returned from the war, followed by their marriage in August of 1948. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Eileen made Vermilion home in 1953, becoming an active member of the EandR United Church of Christ, Vermilion Garden Club, Eight Ball Dance Club, Bridge Club, and Red Hats. She worked as a secretary for the Vermilion Board of Education, led both Brownie and Boy Scout troops, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels until she could no longer drive. Besides her love for ice cream, Christmas, and travel, she was an avid reader, golfer, knitter, and Vermilion sports fan well into her later years. It’s been rumored she had attended over 1000 Vermilion basketball games! Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Leona (nee Von Hasse) Stenger, brother Jack (Mary) Stenger, sister Norma (Paul) Kluding, and son-in-law Dave Mitchell. Eileen is survived by her adoring husband, Edwin, and loving children, Kathy Mitchell, and Michael (Michele) Ziemke. Bringing her much joy were her grandchildren, Matt (Teresa) Mitchell, Jennifer (Michael) Kaffel, Janna (Omar) Rammuny, Alison (Joe) Kleibscheidel, Amanda (Jeff) Grob, David (Morgan Blair) Teasel, and 13 adorable great-grandchildren.
