Obituary of Brian C. Briggs
Rev. Brian C. Briggs, 71, of Vermilion, went to his heavenly home on October 8, 2020.
Rev. Briggs received his B.A. degree in 1970 from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. In 1974 he received his M. Div. from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH. Rev. Briggs was ordained Deacon in the Northern New York Conference of the United Methodist Church by Bishops W. Ralph Ward and Paul Washburn in 1972. In 1975 Rev. Briggs was ordained Elder with Bishop Francis Kearns of the East Ohio Conference presiding and Revs. Walter S. Chisholm, Kenneth Anderson and Allen Zagery participating elders.
Rev. Briggs served as pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Vermilion from 1988-1996. He also served Dorset and Richmond Center, Mayfield Heights Hillcrest, Independence and Niles United Methodist Churches. Rev. Briggs wife, Karin worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Ihor Suszko in Vermilion for 21 years.
Rev. Briggs enjoyed his family and loved spending time with them on holidays, birthdays, family visits, etc. Rev. Briggs also enjoyed his extensive US stamp collection he began at the age of 10, church history, architecture and liturgy, photography and writing.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karin (nee Spivak) Briggs of Vermilion; daughter, Melissa (Todd) Briggs-Phillips, Ph.D. of Bexley: son, Ryan (Stephanie ) Briggs of Dublin and his grandchildren, Kincade and Harper Phillips and Daniel and Adelyn Briggs; and brother, Keith Briggs of Vero Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thornton and Lorrine (nee Ingersoll) Briggs; and his brother, Theodore "Ted" Briggs.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Open Door, 1230 Beechview Dr., Vermilion, OH 44089. Pastor John Jacobs will officiate. Interment will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Church of the Open Door, 1230 Beechview Dr, Vermilion, OH 44089 .
