Obituary of Clark Akers
Clark Akers, 93, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 surrounded by his family.
He was born October 6, 1927 in Dana, KY the son, of Willie L and Minnie J. Akers. He left school early to help his family, later serving the Army in the Korean War, and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in battle.
Clark married the love of his life, June (nee Conn) on March 29, 1952. As a master carpenter, the family lived and worked in several communities throughout Kentucky and Ohio , finally settling in Vermilion in 1968. After retirement Clark took up golf and enjoyed playing in leagues at Willow Creek. He had fond memories of friendships made there. Clark also enjoyed gardening, his church, and visiting with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered by his children and grandchildren for the way he could make everyone laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, June (nee Conn) Akers of Vermilion; sons, Larry (Barb) Akers of Vermilion, Neil (Cindy) Akers of Vermilion, Wendell Akers of Vermilion, and Enos Akers of Lorain; grandchildren, Carrie (Akers) Bean, Jeffrey Akers, Brian Akers, and Kristen (Akers) Breeden; and his great-grandchildren, Tanner, Camden, and Jayce Bean, Makenna and Maxton Akers, and Lily Breeden. He leaves behind many extended family members, acquaintances and friends who will dearly miss his smile and gentle caring way. He was loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Minnie (nee Jarell) Akers; brothers, Paul, Vance Lee, Walter, and Bradley Akers; and his sisters, Alpha Kidd, Alkie Case, Ruby Conn, and Ruth Boyd.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday, October 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Larry Newsome will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a veterans organization of the donors choice.
