Obituary of Richard E. Miller
Richard E. Miller, 85, of Ashland, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at The Laurels of New London after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 20, 1935 in Sandusky, OH. Richard had been an Ashland resident for the past 6 years moving from Vermilion where he had been a lifelong resident.
Richard was a veteran of the Army National Guard and Army Reserves.
Richard worked at Ford Motor Company for 10 years. He also worked at Oscar Meyer Company for 28 years and for Lear Corporation for 5 years. He also owned the Pied Piper Dairy Queen in Bayview, Ohio in the 1970’s. He was a hard worker and always made sure his family was taken care of.
Richard was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational. He was a member of UAW Local #425, UFCW Local #1650, and UAW Local #913 of Huron. He enjoyed reading, fishing, farming, auctions and history. He liked books and TV shows about ancient aliens and Big Foot. He claimed to have seen Big Foot 4 different times and enjoyed telling those stories.
He is survived by his son, Patrick (Christine) Miller of Ashland; daughter, Kathy (James) Klostermeyer of Huron; 7 grandchildren, Paul Miller, Alison (Jeremiah) Nguapha, Daniel (Carissa) Miller, Jeremie White, Josh White, Kyle Lawson, and Kayla Lawson; great grandson Zeke Nguapha; and his brothers, Michael D. Miller of Toledo and Roger A. Miller of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jean (nee Lindsley) Miller on August 27, 2019; his parents, Julius and Isabelle (nee Earl) Miller, and a son, Michael Miller in 2015.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 7, 2020 from 5 pm until the time of a funeral service at 7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. The Reverend Melinda Quellhorst will officiate. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. Friends and family who want to come are welcome to attend, but due to Covid-19, we are asking that people be careful to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and refrain from embracing. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 at 10:30 am at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
The family suggests memorial contributions to United Church of Christ, 990 State Rt., Vermilion, OH 44089.
