Obituary of Marilu Smith

Marilu Smith (Ober), 78, of Vermilion, died Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Story Point Senior Living Waterville, OH after a short illness. She was born July 4, 1942 in Norton, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 57 years . Marilu graduated from Kent State University and taught Business and Computer Programming for 22 years at Clearview Local Schools and 3 years at Vermilion Local Schools. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermilion where she had been active with the Altar Guild. She was also member of the CEA, OEA, NEA, Christian Education, Gourmet Girls, Red Hats, College Club, and chaired the Antique Show. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, cross stitch, and taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Roy Smith of Elyria and Darin (Suzanne) Smith of Bowling Green; foster son, James (Brenda) Life of Vermilion; Granddaughters, Madison Smith, and Rylee Smith; Grandson, Bryce Smith; foster Grandson, Charles Jamison Life; and sisters, Dona Lea Brock and Bettisue Leach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Lee Smith in 2020 and her parents, Roy and Lucile Ober. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 11am until 1pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion immediately following the visitation. Friends and family who want to come are welcome to attend, but due to Covid-19, we are asking that people be careful to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and refrain from embracing.
