Obituary of James Virgin

James R. Virgin, 84 of Vermilion, died July 11, 2021, surrounded by his family at his home after a short illness. 

He was born July 20, 1936 in Clarksville, Pennsylvania and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 59 years, moving from Khedive, PA

James was a veteran of the Korean/Vietnam War. He worked for Ford Motor Company, Avon Lake, as a painter for 33 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed working as Vermilion Municipal Court’s bailiff for Judge Ryan after his retirement.

James was a member of UAW Local 2000 (serving numerous positions), American Legion Post #397, Amvets Post #22, and “And Others Hunting Camp”, New Freeport, PA.

James enjoyed coaching his son and others in the community, woodworking, painting, gardening, and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He owned and operated Virgin Lawncare with his grandchildren.  He made it a priority to attend all of their sporting activities from elementary throughout collegiate levels.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jo Marie (nee Shimrock) Virgin; daughters, Tamara (Kirk) Horton of Vermilion and Michelle (Rodney) Deichler of Florence; son, Michael Virgin of Vermilion; grandchildren, Kristopher (Kellsey) Horton, Matthew (Kate) Deichler, Michael Virgin, Madison (Victor Hill) Virgin, Nicholas Deichler, Sydney Virgin, Cole Virgin, Reese Virgin; great-grandchildren, Marloe Virgin, Brooklyn Deichler, Cameron Deichler, Krieger Horton, and Kali Deichler; brother, Ron Virgin of Vermilion; sisters, Joan Steinmiller of Jefferson PA, Carol Wells and Judy Virgin of Vermilion, Nancy Gray of Chatham, and Cindy Stewart of Lodi.

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy James Virgin; his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth (nee Young) Virgin; his brothers, Robert, Clarence, William, and Carl Virgin; and his sisters, Jean Policz, Marilyn Dillinger, Lois Eaton, and Ruth Virgin.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at 5:30 PM at Germans Villa, Vermilion.
