Richard H. Knoll, 86, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, August 18,2021 at Mill Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 1, 1935 in Muskegon,MI and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 30 years moving from Berea, Ohio.
Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI. He worked as an aerospace engineer for NASA in Cleveland, OH for 39 years, retiring in 1997. His career at NASA included the development and implementation of multiple experiments onboard the space shuttles Atlantis and Columbia.
Dick attended Birmingham United Methodist Church. He enjoyed boating and fishing (especially ice fishing), traveling, and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty (nee Maser) Knoll of Vermilion, daughter Janet Knoll Lano of NJ, daughter-in-law Barbie Carter Knoll of Mogadore,OH, and his brother Guy (Angela) Knoll of Au Gres, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alyce (nee Cole) Knoll, his sister Joann Stamn, and his son, Douglas Richard Knoll (1/5/07).
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 19th, 2021 from 12:30pm-4pm in the Fellowship hall of the Birmingham United Methodist Church. 15018 South Street, Wakeman(Birmingham), OH 44889.
