Obituary of William S. Mooney

William S Mooney, 92, of Vermilion, died Friday, September 24, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a short illness.

He was born August 20, 1929 in Waynesburg, PA and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 59 years moving from Pennsylvania.

William was a veteran of the United State Army serving during the Korean War.

William worked for Ford Motor Company as a supervisor retiring in 1984.

He enjoyed gardening, raising and showing horses, farming, and golfing. HIs greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could fix anything.

He was a member of AVMETS Post #22, VFW Post # 7576, the America Legion Post #397 and Ely Masonic Lodge #424.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane (nee Statler) Mooney of Vermilion, daughters, Tracey (Phillip) Sturgeon of Vermilion, and Teresa (Robert) Michaels of Sheffield Lake; his sons, Thomas (Debra) Mooney of Collins, and Timothy (Dawn) Mooney of Clayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeffrey "JJ" Mooney, William Mooney, Anthony (Katy Dodt) Michaels, Brandy (Thomas Verrill) Michaels, Justin (Stephanie) Dewey, Jerrod (Stephanie) Dewey, Joshua (Julianne) Dewey, Jessica (Thomas) Bennett, Cassandra (Jonathan) Gilham, and Brittney (Casey) Mooney; 12 great grandchildren; his brother, John Mooney of Waynesburg, PA. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William S. and Ida (nee Rose) Mooney; brothers, James, Kenneth, Robert and Charles Mooney; and sisters, Alene Luzadder, Helen Husk and Mary Ann Filer.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 2pm to 4 pm and 6pm- 8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11 am at the funeral home.The Reverend Mel Sayler will officiate. Friends and family who want to come are welcome to attend, but due to Covid-19, we are asking that people be careful to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and refrain from embracing. Services will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/riddlefh. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
