Obituary of Roger Cook

Roger J Cook, 74, of Vermilion, died Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 20, 1947 in Pontiac, MI and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 48 years, moving from Michigan.

Roger was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during Vietnam in Thailand.

Roger worked as an air traffic controller for the Cleveland Center for 33 years, retiring in 2004. He then continued to work as an instructor in the training department for 2 years after his retirement. Roger had also worked for General Motors as a data processor prior to becoming an air traffic controller.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion, AMVETS Post 22 in Vermilion and AMVETS Post 79 in Raber, MI, and he was a life member of the VFW Post 7576 in Vermilion. Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting rabbits and birds and traveling. He especially enjoyed going to his cabin in Goetzville, MI with his wife, Josie, where he loved to relax, spend time with family and friends and fish the St. Mary's River.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Josephine "Josie" (nee Zbiega) Cook of Vermilion; son, Joseph R Cook of Charleston, SC; daughter, Regina (Andy) Parker of Henderson, NV; granddaughter, Ashley Parker; brother, Harry (JoAnn) Cook of Tawas, MI; and his sisters, Kathleen (the late Danny) Wagner and Marleen (the late Bud) Olson of Milan, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Ellen (nee Wain) Cook and his sister, Doleres Willey.

Private inurnment will take place at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Goetzville, MI.
