Obituary of George Banaska

George Banaska, 94, of Vermilion, died Saturday, October 16, 2021 at New Life Hospice after a brief illness.

He was born July 4, 1927 in Johnstown, PA and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 29 years.

George was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during WWII and the Korean War.

George worked for Columbia Gas for 30 years retiring in 1987.

He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. He enjoyed camping, watching the Cleveland Indians, gardening, word search puzzles, and fixing things. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen Hunter of Vermilion, son, John (Carol) Banaska of Spicewood, TX; daughter, Kelly (Mark) Zelesnik of Columbia Station; grandchildren, Jennie (Dave) Goodwin of Manasass, VA, Steven (Eri) Banaska of Redwood City, CA, Jason (Raquel) Banaska of Brunswick, OH, Kevin Matthew Zelesnik of Columbia Station, OH; and his great-grandchildren, Joshua and Caleigh Goodwin, and Yuna and Vincent Banaska.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (nee McCarthy) Banaska; parents, John Victor and Katherine (nee Schuster) Banaska, and his granddaughter, Gillian Marie Banaska; brothers, Robert and Frank Banaska.

Private Interment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
