Obituary of Richard Charles Ferry

Richard "Dick" Charles Ferry, 80, of Vermilion, died Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born February 20, 1941 in Akron, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 56 years moving from Maryland. Dick was a veteran of the US Marine Corp. where he served as a rifle range instructor and was chosen to be a presidential helicopter guard for President Kennedy. Dick worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain in various capacities including quality control for 31 years retiring in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Vermilion and a past member of the Moose Lodge, Lorain. He enjoyed wood carving, oil painting, Lego's, flying model airplanes, gardening, landscaping, caring for his Bonsai Trees, and spending time with his dogs. He will be remembered by his friends and family as being larger than life. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gail (nee Stevens) Ferry of Vermilion; sons, Brian (Polly) Ferry of Elyria and Kevin (Jennifer Stein) Ferry of Akron; grandchildren, Roselynne (Joey Ritz) Ferry and Garon Ferry; great granddaughter, Serena Rae Ritz; brothers, David (Judy) Ferry of Amherst, John Ferry of Elyria, and Tommy (Kathy) Ferry of Lima, sister, Roberta (Ray) Burbine of Noank, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John "Jack" and Gladys (nee Hill) Ferry; sister, Rita Rocke and his sister in law, Diane Ferry. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4:00 pm until the time of a memorial service at 6:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverend Shawn Salada will officiate. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors just prior to the memorial service.
