Obituary of Marie Ann Carone

Marie Ann Carone (nee Pestolis) beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away after a lengthy illness at St Mary of the Woods, Avon, Ohio.

She was born August 12th, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio and resided in Vermilion, Ohio for over 50 years.

She graduated from DeVilbiss High School, Toledo in 1952. She received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Toledo in 1956. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

She taught English and science in the Toledo Public School System. She was the O.W.E. Coordinator at Washington High School, Massillon, Ohio. However, the highlight of her career was teaching middle school home economics to her valued students in Vermilion. She received The Teacher in America Enterprise Program for Excellence Award in 1982.

A devout Greek Orthodox Christian, she had a profound love for her religion and church community. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Lorain. She was active in the philanthropic Ladies of Philoptochos and  served as a Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a member of the Lakeland Womans Club.

She was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, enjoyed gardening, political debate, and NYT crossword puzzles. She was a passionate cook and baker. Her holiday dinners, especially for Orthodox Easter, will be sorely missed! Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her treasured grandchildren.

Marie will be cherished for her warmth, compassion, and wonderful sense of humor. May her generous spirit live on through us all.

She is survived by her children: Leslie Carone of Miami Beach, FL; Linda Carone of Vermilion; Larry Carone (Cindy) of Avon Lake, OH; grandchildren Anna, Elena, Tommy, and Caroline; brother, Captain Thomas C. Pestolis (Sylvia) of Fallbrook, CA, and her many adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Michael A. Carone in 2011; parents, Constantine and Evangeline (nee Demetriades) Pestolis; and niece, Dena Pestolis.

The family will receive friends and family from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 23rd at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. The Trisagion Memorial Service will be held at 4 PM with the Reverend Michael C. Gulgas officiating.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 North Superior Street, Toledo, OH with the Reverend Eleftherious Legakis officiating.
