Thomas Jeavons

Obituary of Thomas Jeavons

Thomas Harry Jeavons 86, of Vermilion, Ohio died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, February 18th, 2022 at his home in Laguna Woods, CA surrounded by his family.

He was born April 2, 1935 in Williamsport, PA.  His family moved to Vermilion, Ohio in 1946. His father bought land in Vermilion in 1946 to start Jeavons Boat Yard.  Tom graduated from Vermilion High School in 1956 and was an excellent athlete.  He played football, basketball, track, was in varsity club for 4 years, was 3rd year student Vice President and was also Assistant Football and Track Coach his senior year.  For many years, Tom held high school athletic records specifically in Track and Field.  He also attended Bowling Green State University.  He worked at ITT Wakefield (Lithonia Lightening) and retired in 1979.  Tom continued to own and manage Jeavons Boat Yard until 2001 before retiring to Laguna Woods, CA.

While in Vermilion Tom sponsored and played in Vermilion City Men’s Golf League.  He also sponsored and played for many years for Lake Erie Lanes Bowling League.  He enjoyed retirement in CA by playing a lot of golf, so much so, he was club champion 7 years in a row! He also achieved the ultimate quest of not one but TWO holes in one!  The first one was at the Lorain Country Club September 16, 1997 on hole #2 144 yards with a 6 iron.  The second was on his local course in Laguna Woods, CA!  He continued to play golf with his daughters Sheri and Sue up until mid-January 2022!  He always maintained his competitive spirit and could hit the heck out of the ball!

He is survived by his wife, Dixie of Laguna Woods, CA; daughters, Sheri of Laguna Beach, CA and Sue (Phil) Schroeder of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Mackenzie Blitstein of Broomfield, CO, Corey Schroeder of Wheatridge, CO,  and Samantha (Tyler) Ruder and great grandson, Bowen of Columbus, GA; nephew, James (Joyce) Jeavons of Vermilion; and his half-sister, Betty Krueger of Milan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Delores in 1962 and Joseph in 1983; son, Scott in 2003; half-brothers, Richard and Edward (Betty); and nephews, Jack and John Jeavons.

The family will be having a private celebration of life in the spring of 2022 with a final resting place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
